In her first public statement since the death of her ex-fiance Heath Ledger, Michelle Williams says the actor’s spirit lives on in their daughter Matilda Rose.
“My heart is broken,” says the 27-year-old actress, who split with Ledger last September; Matilda was born in October 2005.
“I am the mother of the most tender-hearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is the spitting image of her father,” her statement continues. “All that I can cling to is his presence inside her that reveals itself every day.”
That spirit manifests itself in Matilda’s burgeoning curiosity, her love for all creatures and her fearlessness in tackling new challenges, she indicated.
“His family and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals and takes steps two at a time, and we know that he is with us still. She will be brought up with the best memories of him.”
Filming of Michelle’s latest movie, Blue Valentine, has been postponed to allow the actress time to grieve. Described as the story of a couple who have been together for several years but who are at an impasse in their relationship, it was due to start shooting on Feb 25.
Meanwhile, the Hollywood community is still riled over Entertainment Tonight and The Insider, which agreed not to broadcast a video showing Heath saying he used to smoke joints, only after an outcry from stars, publicists and others.
Copies of the video which circulated on the net did not include one telling scene: Heath saying he got an M for Matilda tattoo “to remind me never to smoke weed again.”
